Dogs

Maggot

At The Tree House since 2001

He was dumped in our garden in Siolim before we moved to the Tree House. The dogs we had at the time were all going mad late at night and we thought the dogs must be going for a snake so John went to investigate. Instead John found a tiny puppy being eaten alive by maggots that actually had the nerve to bark ferociously at him.

Once caught, we were horrified at the state the puppy was in as his back was just eaten away with maggots and he must have suffered appallingly. Being late at night it was decided to clean out all the maggots and make him as comfortable as possible and gave him both milk and tinned dog food, both of which he wolfed down. . The intention was to have him put to sleep the next day because we felt he had suffered enough.

However the next morning he was as chipper as could be and again ran at John barking and tried to chase him out of the kitchen. Because the puppy was so brave we decide to see if we could treat his wounds although they were so bad there were doubts that he could survive, but survive he did and although Maggot is now starting to show his age he is still very active and enjoying life. John called him Maggot because there were more maggots than dog when we first got him!
